The Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance Committee of Bergen County, The Enslaved African Memorial Committee, and the Teaneck Public Library are proud to announce a series of lecture programs in honor of Black History Month.
All events will be Thursdays in February at 7:30 PM at Teaneck Public Library.
Thursday, February 7
Black Soldiers and the Vietnam War
A presentation of African American resistance to the war in Vietnam, presented by James “JJ” Johnson, retired labor journalist.
Thursday, February 14
Herbert Harrison 1883-1927, Father of the Harlem Radicalization and founder of the Militant New Negro Movement presented by author Dr. Jeffrey B Perry.
Thursday, February 21
History of Blacks in Sports in Bergen County presented by Thomas Monroe. Mr. Monroe is an educator, coach, lecturer, and member of the Englewood Historical Society.
Thursday, February 28
The New Jersey Amistad Commission presented by Dr. Stephanie Harris. Dr. Harris will discuss the implementation of NJ legislation to ensure the integration of materials and text of the history and contributions of African Americans and the descendants of the African Diaspora.
