January Gallery: Duet Designs by Teaneck artists, Carolyn Kaldy and Dianne Bekritsky

A collection of watercolor and pen and ink art starts off the new year at the Teaneck Public Library and will be on display throughout the month of January.  The exhibit is called ‘Duet Designs’, presented by Teaneck artists, Carolyn Kaldy and Dianne Bekritsky.

The flowers and quotes combine to make beautiful designs in each of the 19 pieces of artwork that line the walls.  There are quotes in Hebrew and English calligraphy that have Biblical origins. “The Lord is My Shepherd”, “I am my beloved’s and he is mine”, “Everything is beautiful in its time”, and more. There are also papercuts, a woodcut, a sample Ketubah (Jewish marriage contract), and blessings for the home.

Carolyn Kaldy (aka Lynn), a Teaneck resident for 50 years, has a background of 40 years as a stylist and designer for women’s apparel, sleepwear, children’s wear, and outdoor patio furniture. The patio prints are featured in all the major stores nationwide.  Currently, she produces reproductions of houses (mostly in Teaneck) in pen, ink and watercolor on a commission basis.  She also loves to do landscapes and antique houses, along with a lifelong love of flowers.

During many years of foreign travel, influenced by Parisian and Italian designs, she has incorporated those elements into her own work.

Dianne Bekritsky, a Teaneck resident for 45 years, has had a multifaceted career: Working both in Information Technology and Education, and ending her career as a UPS Business Systems Analyst.  She studied Hebrew calligraphy and illumination with Jay Greenspan at the 92nd St Y, Design at the New School, and taught herself English calligraphy.  Since 1972, she has focused on the creation of personalized Jewish marriage contracts (Ketubot).  Dianne also creates other works of Judaic art including papercuts, quotations, and family trees.  Many of her works can be viewed on her website: HasoferetNJ.com.

Dianne’s ‘Jerusalem of Gold’ laser cut wood plaque recently won 1st place in the Bergen County Senior Art Exhibition in the Craft category and Honorable Mention in the New Jersey State Art Exhibition.  Her poured acrylic “Flowers in the Sea” won 1st place in the Bergen County Focus Exhibition held in November.  She is Membership Vice president for the SALUTE to Women in the Arts and Secretary/Treasurer for the Jerusalem Institute for the Blind.

Come visit and enjoy the collaborative efforts of the watercolorist and the calligrapher in this wonderful exhibit.  Works can be purchased or commissioned by contacting the artists.  Flyers at the exhibit will have the contact information.

The Teaneck Public Library is located at 840 Teaneck Road in Teaneck.  This not-to-be-missed exhibit may be viewed during library hours, which are posted on the website:  https://teanecklibrary.org/location-hours/
