COVID-19 Update Tip #5: Get to Know hoopla

While the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak has many community programs and services shuttered as we all work vigorously to “flatten the curve” and slow the spread of infections, Teaneck Public Library continues to offer online access to the hoopla digital library.

hoopla is an online digital media service that allows you to borrow ebooks, audiobooks, movies, music, comics, and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, or phone – and even your TV.

With no waiting, titles can be streamed immediately, or downloaded to phones or tablets for offline enjoyment later. hoopla offers hundreds of thousands of titles to choose from, with more being added daily. It’s like having your public library with you at home.

You can stream titles instantly through your desktop browser or our mobile app. If you use the mobile app, you can also download titles to your device for offline playback later, where Wi-Fi may be unavailable. Titles are automatically returned and removed from your device at the end of the lending period.

To sign up for hoopla, all you need is a Teaneck Public Library card. If you don’t have a card, you can apply online, and then return to hoopla with your new library card number.

hoopla is continuing to add support for new devices on a regular basis. Currently, hoopla supports iOS and Apple TV; Android and Android TV; Amazon, Alexa, and Fire TV; Chromecast; and ROKU.

For a complete introduction, watch one of the how-to videos on hoopla’s YouTube channel for specific step by step directions for your type of device. Or just pick up your device of choice, go to the app store, search for “hoopla” and download the Hoopla Digital app. You will be walked through the signup process.
