Announcement from the Library Director Regarding Phase 3 of the Library’s Reopening

Dear Teaneck Public Library patrons and community members,

I am happy to announce that on Monday, June 22, we will be entering Phase 3 of the library’s phased reopening plan. The decision to proceed to the next phase of our reopening plan is based on the Governor’s Administrative Order No. 2020-15 permitting contactless pickup of library materials, and in coordination with the Township of Teaneck and Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS).

Contactless Doorside Pickup

Effective immediately, you may reserve materials for contactless doorside pickup at the library. You will receive a phone call from staff to confirm your order, and then you will be able to pick up your materials from the tented table outside the library. We will be distributing craft kits for children, which you can request when we call to confirm your order. Your holds will be packaged in bags generously funded by the Friends of the Library. Please call the library upon arrival and wait for staff to deliver your materials to the designated table and return to the library before collecting your materials. Read the full details on contactless doorside pickup before proceeding.

As of now, doorside pickup will be for Teaneck Public Library items only. To ensure the safety of all residents throughout the county, libraries within Bergen County Cooperative Library System are not sharing materials between libraries. We will continue to monitor recommendations, and we will re-engage this service when it is deemed safe to do so.

While we understand that Bergen County is a close-knit community, we are also only offering doorside pickup for Teaneck residents. This is just the beginning of re-initiating in-person services and it is imperative that we do so in a gradual and methodical manner.

Book Returns

While the library has processed any returns that we have received during the library’s closure, we have asked residents to keep materials to ensure the safety of our staff and comply with the Governor’s Executive Order 107, which closed libraries statewide and did not permit in-person library services.

However, beginning Monday, June 22, we will be officially opening our book drops. Due dates will continue to be extended until further notice, so you may return outstanding items at your own convenience. Please note that when items are returned to our book drop, they will be quarantined for 72 hours before being discharged from accounts.

New Materials

We are also resuming the limited purchasing and processing of new materials. If there are items you would like to request for purchase, please use the Suggest Item form on our website. But please be patient. The COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak has disrupted our vendors and delivery, in addition to our on-site processing, and it will take time for us to return to business as usual.

Thank you for your patience and steadfast support during this unusual time. This has been no small feat by our staff to get us to Phase 3, and has required a lot of time and energy to coordinate with authorities at the state, county, and local level, and make preparations to ensure that all library services are implemented in a safe and responsible manner.

We look forward to once again providing in-person services. I hope you will continue to exercise care when visiting the library by following social distancing guidelines and wearing appropriate PPE. Be safe, be healthy, and we look forward to seeing you soon.
