FAQ During the Library’s Closure Due to the COVID-19 Outbreak

Is the library open?

Teaneck Public Library is closed until further notice due to the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak. All public programs, events, and meetings have been cancelled until further notice.

Is staff in the building?

Staff may be in the building on a limited basis Monday through Thursday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM. However, the library is not currently providing any in-person library services.

Can I return items?

The book returns are currently closed. All residents who are currently in possession of books or other library materials, are urged to keep those materials and not return them to the library until Governor Murphy lifts Executive Order 107, which requires New Jersey residents to stay at home. Any materials currently returned will not be discharged from library accounts.

Will I accrue late fees while the library is closed?

All due dates for library materials will be automatically extended until the library reopens to the public. No late fees will be charged.

What will happen to my holds that have not been picked up yet?

As of now, the library will continue to maintain existing holds for patrons until the library reopens.

Can I place new holds?

Interlibrary loan functions will be suspended during the closure, so you will not be able to place holds until the library reopens.

Can I apply for a library card?

You can apply for a library card online. We will process your application online and e-mail your library card number to you. Once the library reopens, you will be able to pick-up your card at the library.

Can I renew my library card?

If your library card expires during the library’s closure due to COVID-19, it will be automatically renewed until June 1. If your library card expired previously and you would like to renew it, please email teancirc@bccls.org for further assistance.
