February 9 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
The speaker will be Dr. Leonard Jeffries, Black Studies Professor. Dr. Jeffries worked toward his master’s and doctorate degrees at Columbia University’s School of International Affairs while at Operation Crossroads Africa, a private organization that developed community projects in Africa; he spent time in Guinea, Mali, Senegal, and the Ivory Coast. Initially teaching political science at the City College of New York, he was later made a tenured Professor of Black Studies and named Chairman of the new African-American Studies Department. After joining a state-mandated task force to reduce racism in the public school curriculum in 1987, he became a popular speaker on college campuses, and also at public events, calling for blacks to become absorbed in their history and culture.
This is part of the EAMC Virtual Programs for Black History Month, presented in partnership by the Enslaved African Memorial Committee and Teaneck Public Library.
